Kansas Historical Society - Copy Services

Providing access to the State Archives’ collections is part of the agency’s mission. For a fee, researchers can obtain copies of photographs, unpublished and published materials, government records, moving images, sound recordings, and artifacts. This fee schedule outlines the agency’s charges. Prices do not include applicable local sales tax, or shipping and handling.

Electronic Scans

Scans will be produced consistent with the characteristics of the original materials. The lab will not make any adjustments or manipulate the image in any way. When ordering scans, please indicate the resolution, output size, scan file type (TIF or JPG), tonality (gray-scale or color) and delivery method. When you place an order, our staff will send you an invoice. All orders must be paid in advance. Rush service is available for scans at an additional charge per image, dependent upon staff availability. Prices do not include applicable local sales tax, or shipping and handling.

Digital Prints

All prints are produced from digital images. Prints are only available in a glossy finish. When you place an order, our staff will send you an invoice. All orders must be paid in advance. Rush service is available for prints at an additional charge per image and dependent upon staff availability. Prices do not include applicable local sales tax, or shipping and handling.

Moving images

Moving images are transferred or duplicated in their entirety; no editing is provided. When you place an order, our staff will send you an invoice. All orders must be paid in advance. Files delivered as MPEG-2 files on CD or DVD. Prices do not include applicable local sales tax, or shipping and handling.

Sound recordings

Other fees

  • Permissions and use fees: The purchase of copied, scanned or printed images does not constitute permission to publish, exhibit, broadcast, etc. Anyone wanting to use materials from the State Archives must complete a permission form and pay use fees, if applicable.
  • Delivery time: Standard delivery time is within fifteen working days upon receipt of payment. Larger quantities may require more time. Orders that require new scanning may take longer than the standard time.
  • Payment: Please do not send payment until you receive an invoice. When you place an order, our staff will send you an invoice. All orders must be paid in advance. We accept checks and credit cards (VISA, MasterCard and Discover). Prices are subject to change at any time.
  • Postage, Handling and Sales Tax: Customers will be charged postage and handling on all mail orders. Kansas residents will be charged the appropriate destination sales tax. See current local Kansas tax rates.
  • Right of refusal: The agency reserves the right to refuse to copy items in its collections due to condition or restrictions imposed by donor agreements or law (including copyright).
